Joining the choir

The Choir meet to rehearse at Chester Deaf Centre, from 9.30am to 11.30am every Saturday.

New members are accepted in February each year, but anyone interested can contact booking@deesignchoir.co.uk any time during the year, to let us know they are interested and would like to be contacted – we operate a waiting list.   An email will be sent to them in January to let them know the February date for joining.

All adult volunteers are required to hold a minimum of Level 1 British Sign Language qualification.

Children from the age of 8 years and upwards wishing to join are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We perform around 30-40 bookings a year.

All choir members once joining become volunteers for ‘Chester & District Committee for Deaf People’.  Attendances at practices and bookings are monitored and we ask members to try to achieve at least 50% throughout the year which runs from February to mid-December.  We do not meet in January or August.

There is a 3-month probationary period after which free uniform (a small refundable deposit will be required) is provided.

All these remain the property of DEE SIGN CHOIR and must be returned on leaving the choir.

Instructional videos and BSL lyric sheets will be provided to all new members to help with learning our songs.

Please note All choir members age 16 and over are required to undergo a Disclosure & Barring Service (formerly CRB) check at no cost to the volunteer.

The annual membership fee is £44 for adult membership, which includes membership of the Deaf Club and a significant contribution to our Christmas Meal!
